The human heart is prone to many misplaced and misguided fears. In today’s passage (Luke 12:4-12), Jesus reminds us that there’s one fear–the Fear of the Lord–that can free us from all our other fears. Jesus shows us how, as Christians, we can face our lives without fear, under the care of the Father, in the forgiveness of the Son and with the comfort of the Spirit.

The religious leaders in Jesus’ day thought they were good with God, right with God and would be blessed by God based on what they did for God. In today’s passage, Jesus warns us in a sobering way about approaching God with any sense of entitlement or expectation. He reminds us how dangerous, deceptive and demonic a works-based approach to God can be, and how fortunate we are that He came for relationship not just empty religion. Last week, we studied how Jesus called His Disciples to deny themselves, take up their cross and follow Him. This is a very difficult thing that we are asked to to do, however Jesus never calls us to do something by our own strength. Here we see Jesus give Peter, James and John a glimpse of who He is. Getting glimpses of His Glory by His grace waked us up, ignites our worship and changes our lives. In this Sermon by the Hallows Church in Seattle, WA.
