Meet Chasmon. You may know him as Chaz- the guy who loves to travel, write and perform spoken word, meet new people, karaoke, hang out with family, make tasty mochi for dessert, and above all spend time with God- growing in Him through the Word and in community. Born and raised in Seattle, he is currently living in the University District as he pursues his master’s degree in education with a focus on School Counseling at Seattle University. Though he has lived in or around Seattle his whole life, it was actually in Japan where Chaz was studying abroad for four months four years ago that he began to realize that God was pursuing him and giving him a curiosity and desire to learn more about Jesus. He’s been a Christian now for four years, and this is what God is currently doing in his life.
I still don’t understand all and EVERYTHING about Jesus, but at the core, I now finally know what it means to be a Christian. I am continuing to learn more about Him every single day in the Word, and I praise God for the new life I have been given. It’s incredible how God has been working in my life. It took 4 months for me to embrace and accept Jesus as my savior, and it has taken 4 years for Him to bring me back to Japan again as a missionary this coming summer with The Hallows Church.
Within the past few years of being a Christian, God has led me to serve international students studying abroad from Japan. I have been given the awesome privilege of teaching conversational English and sharing the gospel with my Japanese friends in a program called Eigo Cafe. I’ve been able to witness four of my friends become Christians. Its been a wonderful thing to witness God’s power at work.
I also started to volunteer for Cru, a collegiate ministry, in 2014 at the University of Washington and continue to be a volunteer to this day. It was then I came to a revelation that I love ministry and making Jesus known. The fact that I can meet with people and share the gospel brings absolute joy to my life. I understand the transformation God has done in my life in just a short amount of time. I have no doubt that He could do the same for another who is on a journey to know Jesus or someone who is yet been exposed to a loving and beautiful Father who reigns in Heaven.
Being at The Hallows Church has given me many opportunities to grow in Christ. I was an intern over the summer of 2015 as a videographer. It was through this internship that I became more fired up and passionate about reaching the nations and lost souls. I really do believe in my church’s mission statement: that we exist to magnify and multiply the gospel through Seattle to the ends of the earth. How true is this that Jesus wants to reach every single individual through many church communities, one of them being The Hallows Church.
If you would like to be part of the work God is doing to magnify and multiply his good news through Seattle to the ends of the earth, check out our Global Engagement Ministry Team page at hallowschurch.org.
